#54884, "Rigging colour"

Hi everyone,
This is my first post, and first venture into ship model-making as an adult!
I am halfway through building the Revell 1/400 Titanic anniversary model.
So far so good.
My question is about the rigging thread supplied with the kit. On all the finished examples I see on line, the black rigging as supplied looks too conspicuous, and toy-like. I'm thinking of going for a grey colour. I reckon the thread supplied is 0.25mm diameter, so that's about 4" at scale. is that correct? Please could you recommend a different thread I could use. (And sorry if there's a thread about thread here already...!)
Timothy H.
