Hi Paul,

Yes, the forum has been a bit flaky lately with regard to images.

The squarish opening visible on your video captures can, I think, be explained by looking at the deckhouse construction. The inner structure of vertical frames is covered by a narrow horizontal plate at the deck level and two wide horizontal plates above. The seam between the wide plates is normally invisible. What I believe happened was that the upper plate (indicated in yellow on my drawing) was partly torn away, exposing the framing underneath.



This drawing is greatly simplified (reinforcing straps have been omitted) and the extent of the missing plating is uncertain. The deckhouse construction is covered in more detail in 'Titanic: The Ship Magnificent' in volume 1.
