#8240, "New thread - "Titanic- Birth of a Legend""

For anyone who did not see it, Discovery channel ran an hour-long show after the 9 pm Cameron show called "Titanic-Birth of a Legend". Although narrated, this was a film very much like Cameron's (in fact, indistinguishable from his footage in some places) which took the viewer from Titanic's genesis up through construction, launch, and maiden voyage. The film used Robert Welch, H&W's photographer, as a link to the past: throughout he was shown taking shots, after which they would intersperse a still view of the actual B&W photo.

This film had absolutely tremendous scenes of the gantry work, the construction, the launch, and more. The riveting scenes alone are worth watching, and the whole hour, minus narration, could have been added to the beginning of Cameron's original movie. If Cameron brought Titanic to life, this brings Harland & Wolff to life.

Discovery will be re-airing this on July 30 in the US, at 11 pm EST. I would highly recommend watching and taping this!
