Leon,

Don't you have any of the Mark Warren books from the Enginering reprints of these ships? That windlass piece and the other thing you have circled, the anchor cable casting, are illustrated in those books. At least the windlass pieces are.


I am almost certain that these ships didn't use chain ramps like O and T, but dragged the chain along the deck. And yes - as to your other questions - you can almost guarantee that they had wider teak planking below where the chains dragged.

Leon,

The final positioning that you posted is correct to the best of my knowledge for the Lusitania. The plan that Bruce posted from Engineering was reprinted in Shipbuilder and applied to both ships despite the differences in their ultimate design. Neither vessel's configuration, however, matched that shown in the plan.

On the Lusitania, the two smaller objects were in a straight fore-aft line in relation to each other, and were just outboard and a frame behind the larger one. Hope that helps.
