#55347, "Deck gear plans"
Sun Jul-16-17 12:09 AMby s-bguzik

I have searching online for awhile now and haven't been able to find any reliable plans for the capstans, bollards, winches, air ventilation systems or just about any of the visible deck gear. Can anyone help me out? As for the cargo cranes plenty on images exist but many things remain unknown like steel thickness and rivet size along with the mechanical layout of the pedal/levers.

Thanks again,

Brady G.

Peter Davies-Garner's book, RMS Titanic: A Modelmaker's Guide has drawings of most of the deck gear. Robert Hahn's Titanic plans have individual drawings of all the ventilators, davits and many other fittings.

Hi Brady,

For the deck fittings, there are a few resources listed in this thread: http://titanic-model.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=100&topic_id=54764&mode=full

I don't know your specific needs, but I imagine the Davies-Garner book would have most of what you're looking for. Regarding the cranes, there isn't a great deal of information available beyond what you'd find in TTSM or the 'Shipbuilder' reprint. You'll probably have to work as best you can from photos.

Regards,
Ralph

I have some plans of the sirocco fans but there are no dimensions. Any idea as to what the base width is? If I have one dimension then I can scale the plans to that and work from it. Thanks!

I have modeled both 18 inch bollards and would like to have you guys critisize them! Seriously, please point out any flaws! I wasnt entirely sure how the top of the ventilator bollard was assembeld so clarification on that would be great.

Thank you,

Brady Guzik
