#5384, "Bob's 1/350 Minicraft Titanic"

Hello Everyone,

My name is Bob Wescott. I've been working on RMS Titanic for a month. The wife gave her to me for Christmas because she wanted a model of Titanic. She is a huge fan of the movie.

Below are some shots of my progress to date. I'm following the Rivet Counter Tutorial.

This first photo shows the model as lighted.

A shot of the LEDs in the fixture I made to hold them. They are from:
http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/bl-212.html.
I'm using the 5mm warm white ones. They only have a 30° beam. To enlarge the beam to 100° one must cut off the 'dome' of the LED. I used a sawblade in the dremel, then polished the face with the dremel and the buffing wheel with compound.

These two photos show the fiber optic bundles that were mounted to the bottom of B Deck. I got them here:
http://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Optic-Battery-Operated-Fibers/dp/B000EBPJZQ/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1323268117&sr=8-16
They came with a bulb source that I changed to a 5mm LED. There are 50 0.018" fibers in each, and they are some kind of plastic that can be bent or heated to flare them.

A shot of the condenser intakes and discharge.

The rudder with 00-90 pintal nuts.

The stem with the fareleads and rigging bracket for the fore stays.

I welcome any and all comments, good or bad. I need all the help You can offer.

Bob,

Welcome - nice to see someone else from Jersey here. Your photos immediately mark you as a modeler to be reckoned with. Aside from an absolutely superb paint job and excellent color choices, I note quite a few details that not many people take the time to do. Notable among these is the fact that you've drilled your sidelights out to different diameters. And I love what you've done with the condenser intakes and discharges on the hull.

This is going to be one fine model. I see another candidate for the Finished Models Gallery when you're done.

Hi Bob,

I'm also new here, and am very impressed with your model! I am also working on the 1/350 Minicraft model for my wife (who is a fan of the ship) I'm in the process of drilling portholes myself. Could I ask for a little more detail on how you lit your model? If I understand the link you provided, these LEDs would hook up to a 12v power source? How did you wire it, and what power source did you use?

Thanks so much in advance,

Raymond L. Hatfield

Bob,

I hope your model is progressing well. I'm starting one myself. It appears that you installed about 20 LEDs on the hull fixture. Is that because of the type of LEDs used vs. the ones used in Hodge's tutorial which used eight in the hull?

Thanks,

John
