#9279, "Art's model - Finished"
Sun Feb-19-17 08:51 PMby Art Braunschweiger

It gives me great pleasure to announce that after 13-1/2 years, my 1:350 Titanic model is finally finished. All that remains is to mount it to its base. Then, after the decks are cleaned of the small construction debris that's accumulated over the years, it will be time to photograph it. Unfortunately, being winter in New Jersey on the northeast coast of the United States, I will have to wait for warmer weather until I can safely bring the model outside to take advantage of natural lighting conditions.

My waterline model replicates the ship as she appeared at Cherbourg, and so on April 10 at 6:30 pm Cherbourg time (the date and time Titanic dropped anchor there) the model's website will go live. It has 14 pages with over 200 photographs of the build alone, more than 25 PDFs for downloading - lighting diagrams, scale equivalent tables, etc. - plus links to plans and suppliers. You'll finally be able to see everything I've done and how I've done it. For the 1:350 scale modeler, in many ways it will be the online equivalent to Peter Davies-Garner's book.

Regards
Art

It's worth saying again. Your model is what Minicraft had in mind as museum quality. Outstanding craftsmanship Art. Take pride in your achievement. You have set the standard. Also, thank you for all the help you have given over the years to the rest of us modelers.

Wow..looking forward seeing the pictures. I can imagine, removing the model outside must be carefully blanned, in order to avoid another titanic disaster.

Hi Art

Concerning construction debris. What is your approach on this?

Have also notice debris on the build. Was thinking a can of compressed air but this would be to much force. My second thought was using a paint brush and the airbrush (empty with no paint) at vary low pressure to blow this stuff over the side.

I used a can of air yesterday with a removable "red straw" attached (I don't know what the proper name is). It has a variable trigger button so I could control the force of the spray. Obviously I blew gently. By doing it outside, the air movements carried the dust and debris away instead of it just floating around like it would have done inside. Some of the dust and debris does have a static cling and has to be brushed off with a soft paintbrush, as you said.

Art,

Your model is a fantastic achievement. The attention to detail is a culmination of not only your modelling skills but also thorough research and a desire to produce the most accurate Titanic model possible. What is also so impressive is the scale it has all been built in. I too look forward to seeing some of the finished photos on your website. Well done Art, something to be very proud of.

Jason

Art,

This is amazing! I use this website as an inspiration since 1999 and you have been the reference of knowledge and craftsmanship for me. Always when I see a post or a reply from you I know that it is reliable information. I am slowly building my fourth Titanic 1/350 (with a 5th already bought) and my intention is to improve as I build into more and more detailed. I will, in fact, halt my construction so I can be inspired by your work. I am working with LED and fiber optics mostly based on the information I found on this amazing website.

I am really looking forward to your model. Also, I just bought both volumes of "Titanic The ship magnificent".

Thank you for all your hard work and commitment.

Thanks, Zeno. That is quite a compliment. I promise you, it will not disappoint. I did another photo shoot today and have some stunning images.

By the way, I have a particular fondness for Hollywood since my grandparents lived there. Spent a week there every February from 1971 to 1990.

Hi Art,

I have noticed April, 10, when your website will go online. Additionally to TTSM 1, 2, Peter's book, plans, etc., I think, it will be a fantastic source for Titanic model builders in different scales, as I followed your progress on this TRMA website since many years.

Best regards,

Michael

Art -

I'm speechless.

My warmest congratulations to you for finishing your model after all these years. Back when I joined the forum in 2005 or so I remember your model was in its early stages, and it has been a great pleassure for me to follw the construction of this outstanding model. Your photographs and descriptions over the years have been among the greatest help for me to build my own models, and I have much to thank you for this.

The webpage is something I am really looking forward to. From the photos you posted in this topic it look highly professional. As one expect from you!

Best regards,

- Morten

Art,

This is a very very very exciting news for me!! Your model blow me away.. To me this is best and most accurate 1/350 scale ever existed.. Do you have any plan to make a hardcopy book of your model? just like Peter Gardner book, but focusing on the 1/350 scale.. it would be incredible

Elang

No, that's why I built the website as extensively as I did. Plus the images are much bigger and all in color. And you don't have to order it and wait for it to be shipped, and it's free.

All the daytime photo shoots have been completed much earlier than I expected, and so the website is going live this week. The only page that will not be up yet is the Evening Photos page, since realistically I'll need some long warm June evenings to take those pictures.

The new launch date is this Wednesday March 16 at noon Eastern Standard (New York) Time. The website address will be posted at that time.
